Announcements
Announcements can be really helpful to drivers when used properly. But because they interrupt whatever someone is listening to, misusing them creates serious frustration.
When signalling an announcement
Section titled “When signalling an announcement”- Use the correct announcement type. For road traffic information, use the Traffic announcement type.
- Don’t signal multiple announcement types at the same time
- Make sure the start and end of the announcement signal matches the actual announcement audio closely, and doesn’t include irrelevant content like advertisements, promotions, or music.
DAB and FM announcements
Section titled “DAB and FM announcements”Announcement signalling needs to be consistent across FM and DAB so drivers don’t miss important information.
If you signal that you’re providing announcements on DAB (using FIG0/18), receivers will ignore announcement signals from the same station on FM. This means you need to send all announcements in parallel across both FM and DAB to make sure drivers hear them regardless of which signal they’re receiving.
