Visual information updates

Update visual information automatically as soon as a new image is received, without any interaction from the driver.

Visual information should not update more than once every 20 seconds. Ignore any update that arrives within 20 seconds of the previous one.

Display timing

Radio stations often send visual information ahead of its intended display time to account for transfer delays. Always respect the display time specified by the radio station and never show an image before it’s intended to appear.

The display time will be one of two things:

• Now - update the visual information immediately
• A specific UTC time - update the visual information at, or as soon as possible after, that time

DAB/DAB+ Workaround for Display Time

Some older vehicles incorrectly display DAB Slideshow images as soon as they are received, rather than waiting for the intended display time. To work around this, some radio stations withhold the final packet of image data until just before the intended display time. This means the image is only passed from the decoder to the display once it is complete.

This is a deprecated workaround that will phase out over time as older vehicles are replaced. In the meantime, make sure your decoder handles this behaviour correctly.
